Our summer trip

I am just now posting pictures from our summer trip. We rode over 8,000 miles on our Goldwing and I have so many pictures and tales to tell.

Buena Vista Social Club

I had heard the soundtrack from this film Buena Vista Social Club when my daughter brought it over to share with me when we were cooking together. She worked at a local record/CD store for several years so she was more in "tune" with the latest music. I had wanted to see the film, but, alas, I am so behind on my movies. So many movies, so little time.

I made the time to actually watch it tonight. I really enjoyed it and was inspired to comment.

If you want to hear some great music and see some great photography as well, this is a must see. I also suggest perhaps cooking up the appropriate cuisine while listening.

The architecture of the Cuban landspace with the added vintage American automobiles seemed as if it was created from an artist's palette. All of our old vintage great automobiles are living in heaven in Cuba.

Why have we had such a ban on Cuba? Yes, I am a college graduate, but haven't studied that particular point in history.

My favorite part of the film was the part where the children were doing their ballet and gymnastics. The whole film is excellent, but I was touched by the sincerity and intent by the children. The beauty in the assimilation of the Spanish and African culture was brought to my attention. Something to ponder as we try to digest and meditate on what is happening in the present day situation with the Muslims in Europe.

Then, the producer brought the musicians to NYC to perform at Carnegie. The film showed them walking around NYC and their comments were that this (NYC) was beautiful. Standing in the midst of traffic and lights, they thought that was beautiful. Compared to what life they knew, I imagine it was.

My thoughts were that they haven't seen this country at all. They have no idea of the beauty of this country. After riding 8500 miles on a motorcycle this summer - seeing the USA and Canada - it made me realize how subjective beauty really is. To someone who has lived in Cuba - New York City is beautiful. To me, I wouldn't think that at all, I would think about the horrid smell of exhaust. To me, the sights and smells of the open roads of the USA are the most beautiful I've ever seen. However, it's wonderful to watch good films about the places I won't be riding through.

The Oregon coast in July.  Posted by Picasa
Our first experience of the Oregon coast on the motorcycle. It was 50 degrees and misting. Despite the exposure to the elements, the smells and sights were awesome. We stopped at this beach so I could put some pantyhose under my jeans for added warmth.

Why I walk between the worlds

The reason for this blog is that I have a need to tell my story about walking between the worlds. The world of the spiritual, the world of my healing profession, the world where you cannot really see or smell but you can sense, and the world of reality where you can see and sense with your eyes and nose what is all around you.

It has been a journey for me because I've always been a daydreamer, I can be happy with myself in my thoughts for hours and days. Finding happiness in being alone. And then I realize that I miss the contact of being with people. I am a social creature. I love to meet new people and talk about what is going on with them and the world. So just how do I balance that?

How do I be in a spiritual realm with my solitude and at peace, and how do I intergrate that with the need for being aware of the what is around me. And for the life of me, the world around me has started to really make me wonder.

I have grandchildren and as much as I would like to protect them from the real world, I know beyond a shadow of a doubt, that I would fight tooth and nail as a Celtic warrioress to protect them from what's going on in the world today.

And what is going on in the world today is the same old same old as always. Nothing has really changed. There is going to be war and there are going to be riots.

But I will tell you this.. I am going to focus on the beauty of the world around me and the peace that I can personally manifest.
